My experience while studying at FPD UC is very interesting, because not only basic design, I also learned about entrepreneurship. Fashion Product Design at UC is also interesting because some of the projects are a unique collaboration that can attract lots of attention. Besides being interested in fashion design, I also interested in fashion styling, and we were given the opportunity to join an internship in 6 -7 semester and I choose to join an internship with a fashion stylist. I learned a lot about the preparations before doing a photoshoot or video shoot. I also learned about sets and work systems in a big commercials/ads shooting. Of course, because FPD UC provides many opportunities for students to get out of their comfort zone and provides collaboration opportunities, students can publish their work broadly.

UC FPD lecturers taught us not only to be a fashion designer because there are still many other job prospects such as fashion merchandising, fashion marketing, public relations and many more. The Fashion Product Design and Business department at UC really taught me to understand the design’s basic, how to draw body postures, research and analyse fashion materials, make a pattern and sew it to create an innovative fashion piece. Students also involved to take part in various fashion events, including myself who participating in the Kedaireka x FPD UC collaboration program and Surabaya Fashion Parade 2021 event. The lecturers also encourage students to be actively involved in activities outside of lectures such as modelling, fashion design competitions outside and many more. With the help of lecturers and tutors, I feel that I have grown a lot from the beginning of the semester until now. Even though there are many deadlines, UC FPD department is very exciting and challenges creativity.

I will share a story about my experience while studying at FPD UC batch 2019. At the beginning of the study, we were guided from the beginning, so that others who don’t have basic drawing skills can keep up. During my studies, I gained a lot of new knowledge and new insights. Even though there are many difficulties in the journey of learning, academics are very helpful. In addition to academic activities, I also participate in various non-academic activities such as student organization activities. In organizational activities, I get so many new soft skills lessons, such as how to work in a team, time management to networking. Overall, I am very satisfied with what I got so far in FPD UC. Becoming a fashion designer has been my dream since childhood. By becoming an FPD student at UC, I gradually achieved these goals with the guidance of lecturers and mentors for sure. While studying at the FPD, I learn the world of fashion from the most basic to complex things, from color theory, design, sewing, to business. The most memorable thing while studying at FPD is when there are lessons that are directly related to real clients in the courses that I took. In this lesson I learned a lot about how to cooperate ethically and meet client’s requirement through interviews and in-depth research which were then poured into new concepts and collections to be submitted to clients through presentations. In addition, other experience which also memorable is when I joined a project team in collaboration with PT. Gistex, PT. Satria Bandung Jaya, UC Tikk and Kedaireka. In this project, I learned a lot about the details of the fashion business, from research trends, design, production, to sales. My team and I also had the opportunity to take part in the 2021 Surabaya Fashion Parade and gain a lot of experience in the field through fashion shows and marketing booth there.

During my study at FPD UC I felt much improvement in myself, particularly when I saw a significant improvement in my skills and creativity aspect as I entered the 4^th semester comparing to the 1^st semester. Lecturers and mentors really help the process of finding my signature style as a designer. I feel most grateful for the opportunity to learn all-in-one aspects of the fashion field. Starting from design, textiles, sewing, business, and so on, everything is one package at FPD UC. Overall, I really enjoyed my developing process at FPD UC

Initially, I was a little pessimistic about joining the UC Fashion Product Design and Business Department. It’s because there are many schools that specialize in design in Indonesia, while UC excels in the business world. However, I feel this is the most appropriate choice after joining FPD UC. Since the 1^st semester, I’ve been taught about how to deal with real clients, such as in sewing lessons using other people’s body measurements and how to measure directly. I feel lucky because I get a lot of insight beyond the fashion world without reducing the fashion knowledge that I have to gain. In addition, there are many partnership links from Universitas Ciputra which I can use to expand my experience directly in the field, such as the Surabaya Fashion Wave in January 2022. Thank you Universitas Ciputra.

Experience is the best teacher”. That’s how exactly I describe the learning I got back then during my university days. Besides all the great lecturers who have taught me so many things about everything related to the fashion industry, it has made me who I am today. The favorite subject I loved was designing. It drives my imagination, and it was like an exploration of unformed ideas. The creative process such as, brainstorming, gathering research, all of the information and many other things related to developing a fashion collection really excites me. Business and branding subjects also have a big impact on me today, since UC has strong entrepreneurial fundamentals. It really helps their students to deal with real client projects and the industry while they are still in university.

Very proud to become FPD Universitas Ciputra’s alumni. Since the beginning, FPD UC facilitated us students who want to develop ourselves to the international level. I feel it myself how FPD really supports me when I join a competition. Mentoring session were provided by the lecturers and tips & tricks were also given, even to the point that the jury praised my presentation because everything was explained in detail as if it was ready to be presented to a real client. Besides that, FPD UC also provides an opportunity for us students to introduce & display our works through prestigious fashion shows such as the Bali Fashion Trend and Paris Fashion Show. It was really a very valuable experiences and I brought a lot of provisions to face the real work. Thankyou FPD UC!

I hope that Tesa’s dreams can be realized in any way, as a designer or as a stylist, thanks to the guidance of UC lecturers. Thank you for guiding my daughter all this time.

Dheva’s dream to become a fashion designer will be realized through the guidance of all lecturers, FPD UC is the right place to fulfill it. Thank you UC, thank you lecturers, keep on guiding our daughter in achieving her goals.

We as partners feel very extraordinary, proud, and very grateful because FPD Universitas Ciputra Surabaya has helped us a lot in realizing our plans and producing student works as a reference for our buyers in determining the fabrics and colours that will become the next trend. Hopefully this relationship that has been established can bring the common good for both the University and the company.
